Audi Infotainment System issue

How to solve an Audi SQ5 Infotainment System issue

Ever tried driving somewhere new without your satnav? It’s not fun.

Imagine driving with no infotainment system; you’d have no radio; no Bluetooth, satnav, or other fancy features.

Audi Infotainment System issue

This is what happened to Mr McCowan’s Audi SQ5.

Mr McCowan had been driving around with a faulty infotainment MMI system for several days before bringing it to our specialists at Fergies. He’d visited a local Audi dealership that claimed the main multimedia unit needed replacing. The Audi dealer quoted him a hefty £5000 to fix his car.

It’s no wonder he decided to take his car elsewhere for a second opinion. Luckily he chose to visit us at Fergie’s German vehicle specialists.

The Problem

After an initial assessment, our Audi specialist could see a 384 11 Fibre Optic Data Bus error code appearing.

The Fibre Optic Data Bus is a small connection that helps transfer data to and from the main multimedia unit. Our Audi technician was confident he could fix Mr McCowan’s SQ5 but wanted to perform further tests to discover the root cause of the problem.

Even though our Audi expert had received the Fibre Optic Data Bus error, he knew there are often hidden faults that won’t show from a brief check over.

The last thing he’d want to do is fix the initial issue, only for Mr McCowan to return a few days later with further problems.

At Fergies, all our specialists use a 15 step diagnosis process to guarantee we identify any issues the first time. This saves you money and doesn’t waste your time. The 15 step process digs deep, ensuring nothing is missed. We go the extra mile to follow the manufacturer’s guidelines, so your car doesn’t lose integrity.

Once our technician carried out a global scan of the car, they noticed the R Radio unit wasn’t communicating the way it should. This issue had been overlooked by the previous Audi garage, which is why we never deviate from our 15 step process.

Mr McCowan could have paid the £5000 to the Audi dealership to replace the MMI unit, only to find his Audi SQ5 still didn’t work. – It would have been a nightmare.

Fixing the Audi SQ5

The R Radio fault needed addressing, and further tests were performed to test the unit’s functionality.

Our Audi specialist found the R Radio unit wasn’t receiving any power from the 12V battery. It’s no wonder it wasn’t working as it should. There are two possible causes preventing the R Radio unit from receiving power.

  1. An intermittent fault with the R Radio unit.
  2. A blown fuse.

Luckily, the lack of power was traced back to a blown fuse, the cheaper of the two. A blown fuse caused all of the issues; could it be that simple? Fortunately for Mr McCowan’s bank account, it was.

A new fuse was fitted, and the SQ5 was retested to ensure the MMI system was working as it should.

Once the Audi SQ5’s fuse had been replaced, the car’s multimedia unit lit up like new.

All of the car’s error codes had cleared, and we were confident Mr McCowan’s car wouldn’t have any further issues.

Mr McCowan’s Audi SQ5 had a problem with the infotainment multimedia unit, so he visited his local Audi dealership to sort out the problem.

However, after being quoted £5000 for the repair, he decided to get a second opinion and brought his car to us at Fergies German Vehicle Specialists.

During the first assessment using our 15 step diagnostic process, we noticed the issue wasn’t what it seemed.

The last thing we wanted to do was to overlook anything as the outcome could be extremely costly for Mr McCowan.

Fortunately, our Audi specialists identified a blown fuse which appeared to be the root of the infotainment MMI unit’s problems.

Once the fuse had been replaced, the infotainment unit worked like new.

Mr McCowan’s face lit up brighter than the infotainment unit once he realised he didn’t need to pay £5000.

The price of a fuse is a drop in the water compared to what he was initially quoted from Audi. It’s no wonder he was over the moon.

If your Audi SQ5 has any issues, our specialists can help. At Fergies, we give your Audi a premium service without having to pay dealership prices.
