Audi Brake Pedal Issues
At Fergies, we understand why the Audi Q7 is a popular choice amongst car owners. They offer a luxurious and spacious driving experience, deliver strong performance, supply advanced safety features, and of course carry the prestige associated with the Audi brand.
We’re experts at keeping your Audi running at its best by providing a friendly, reliable and professional service. In this blog, we’ll discuss just one of the ways in which we helped a recent Audi Q7 owner resolve a brake pedal issue.
Our client came to us with intermittent brake problems with their Q7, noticing that when they pressed the brake pedal, unusual noises could be heard and warning messages on the dashboard flashed up.
We were confident that we could help. An Audi Q7’s brake system is a complex combination of sensors, vacuum systems, and electronic components, which are sometimes prone to failure.
But here at Fergies, our highly trained technicians specialise in repairing all types of brake issues, especially those with Audi vehicles. As a result of our extensive experience and expertise, we will solve any problem effectively, so you can get back on the road with a reliable and long-lasting fix.
So have a read of this case study, where we describe the steps we took to correct the brake pedal issue. Let’s get into it…

Identifying the Source of the Audi Q7’s Braking Problem
When our client first brought their Audi Q7 to our garage in Thatcham, we assigned one of our skilled technicians to thoroughly examine and investigate the issue by checking the vehicle’s fault codes.
As a result of the investigation, the following fault codes were identified with the Q7:
- C11EC 04: This code shows an internal system fault with the pressure sensor for the brake booster.
- C054A 00: This code shows a range/performance issue with vacuum sensor “A.”
- P050F 00: This code shows an insufficient brake assist vacuum.
- C123E F0: This code shows a signal comparison failure with the ABS wheel speed sensor.
Even though Audi owners may not recognise the value of these fault codes, our skilled technicians certainly do. These codes serve as a roadmap, directing the attention of our technicians to specific areas that require further investigation.
Our Audi technician identified the following potential causes based on the fault code information and using their prior knowledge and experience:
- Error Code C11EC 04:
- Description: This code indicates a problem with the ABS hydraulic pump motor.
- Possible Causes: A defective ABS pump motor, electrical connection problems, or wiring issues.
- Symptoms: Decreased brake performance, unusual feedback or noise during braking, and the illumination of the ABS warning light on the dashboard.
- Error Code C054A 00:
- Description: This code indicates an issue with the ABS sensor responsible for hydraulic boost compensation.
- Possible Causes: Malfunctioning or misaligned ABS sensor measuring hydraulic pressure.
- Symptoms: Inconsistent brake pedal feel, increased effort required for braking, unusual noises during braking, and activation of the ABS warning light.
- Error Code P050F 00:
- Description: This code indicates a problem with the brake booster pump.
- Possible Causes: A faulty brake booster pump motor or problems with its electrical connections.
- Symptoms: Reduced brake assist, increased pedal effort, longer braking distances, abnormal noise while braking, and the illumination of the ABS warning light.
- Error Code C123E F0:
- Description: This code points to a potential issue with the ABS sensor circuit.
- Possible Causes: Wiring problems, sensor circuit malfunction, or damaged connectors.
- Symptoms: Inconsistent ABS operation, activation of the ABS warning light, unusual feedback during braking, and possible loss of ABS functionality.
After conducting a thorough diagnostic evaluation and visually inspecting the ABS unit and the servo (also known as the brake booster), our technician discovered that the sensor was not transmitting data. After removing the sensor, they carefully examined the wiring and terminals, which were in good condition. Using an oscilloscope, our technician verified that the live, earth, and signal voltages were correct, concluding that it was the sensor itself that was faulty.

Replacing the Faulty Sensor & Resetting the ABS Unit
After identifying the issue, our team at Fergies immediately ordered a replacement brake servo vacuum sensor. With the new sensor installed, the entire brake system was thoroughly inspected once again to ensure everything was now in full working order. Using the Audi dealer software, our experienced technician cleared the fault codes and monitored the live data from the brake servo vacuum sensor. After this meticulous process, the unit now worked as expected.
In order to ensure the repair was successful, the technician took the Q7 on a test drive, carefully assessing brake feel, noise levels, and overall performance. There were no unusual noises from the brake system, and no warning lights on the dashboard.
Communication is a top priority at Fergies. Our friendly reception team kept the client informed throughout the whole repair process. We explained the brake servo vacuum sensor issue in detail, provided an estimated completion time, and presented a breakdown of costs. When it comes to maintaining and repairing your vehicle, we believe our customers should know all the details upfront.
Our team had access to all the necessary parts for this Audi Q7, which enabled us to fix the problem on the same day. Our team was contacted at the right time. A delay could have resulted in the ABS unit having to be replaced, which would have resulted in significantly higher costs. Local Audi owners can count on us for timely and cost-effective repairs.
