Finding Out Why Audi SQ5 Engine Lights Are Appearing

With a team of highly experienced Audi specialists, we were immediately on the case to address our customer’s SQ5 warning light issue. We confidently knew where to begin in diagnosing the issue, thanks to our decades of experience and specialist tools.

During our diagnosis, our technician found two codes from a diagnostics scan, outlined below. With prior knowledge of these specific error codes, our technician knew what to do next and created a repair process to cross-reference the diagnostic code from our ODIS equipment.

The following fault codes were discovered during the diagnostics scan:

  • P200600 – intake manifold flap for airflow control, bank 1 – stuck while closed.
  • P200400 – intake manifold flap for airflow control, bank 1 – stuck while open.

We found the issue! Our technician found the codes within the Audi Technical Product Information (TPI) system where they found the instructions for what to do next.

Fixing the Issue

Once the fault codes were identified from the technical bulletin, our technician performed an inspection on the intake flap. The intake flaps help control airflow into the engine, and the technician discovered that the flap was stuck and could not move.

The next stage was to check the pipe for the intake boost, and using a specialist tool called a borescope, we were able to confirm that the inside was built up with carbon. The combustion process builds up carbon on the intake and this build-up happens under certain driving habits and when the engine develops a fault.

When the technician looked closely, they discovered that there was no problem with the engine air intake system and therefore was not the cause for the carbon build-up.

The technician removed the flap and cleaned out the carbon build-up. The issue was still not resolved from this clean-up and the entire intake flap needed replacing because of internal damage to the motors.

After the intake flap was replaced, a software update was performed on the engine as instructed by the bulletin. The engine management was then updated using the Audi-recommended ODIS diagnostic tool. After these procedures, the engine management light was no longer appearing and the Audi QS5 was now ready to return to the owner.
